Marion Cross School PTO
Who we are:
The Marion Cross PTO was formed in the spring of 1993. This organization brings teachers and parents together to enrich the education of our students. It provides meaningful programs and events for parents, students and teachers, and it engages in special projects that support the school mission and community spirit. The success and vitality of the PTO depends upon the involvement of as many parents and teachers as possible. ALL MCS parents and teachers are considered PTO members! We encourage you to participate.
We are lucky to have a very active and involved Parent Teacher Organization. From publishing our school newsletter (PTO News) to raising funds for teacher grants for enriching the curriculum to baking pies for staff appreciation day, our PTO volunteers provide vital services and support.

What we do:
The PTO provides meaningful programs and events for parents, students and teachers, and engages in special projects that will support the school mission and community spirit. We work to connect and communicate with the school community by providing school and family directories, newsletters, and having a PTO representative for each classroom. The PTO organizes over 30 programs and special events including family support programs, community outreach and social activities, educational enrichment programs, and staff support. The PTO is also dedicated to fundraising to support the school staff and enhance the educational experiences of MCS students.
Every school needs more funds to enhance the educational experiences of students. Most schools turn to their PTO for help. The Marion Cross School (MCS) is no exception. Through the PTO fundraising, MCS has been able to purchase ipads, educational apps, Phys. Ed equipment, playground equipment, art room supplies, and much much more!
For our 2016-17 fundraising campaign, we have worked hard to put together a menu of options with something for everyone and that is easy to fit into regular activities. We have options for those who would like to support local businesses, those who would rather go to events and those who just like to make a generous donation. Please note that while we hope there is a program every family will like, all programs are always optional.
We also try to ensure that, where we can, options also educate the students about money, our community, how to succeed in business, and/or philanthropy. We hope we succeeded and look forward to reporting our progress throughout the year. In 2016-17, ways you can help raise funds for MCS include:
PTO Directory and Dues (through 9/30) Co-Chairs: Jessica Eakin and Stephanie McCaull. There is a $25 suggested contribution per family, which includes a copy of the school directory, either online or print; or $35 for both online and print. Information will be sent home during the first week of school.
Northern Stage Theater program (year round): Chair: Tonya Gammel
Northern Stage has teamed up with Marion Cross School PTO once again to offer fabulous theater at affordable prices. Northern Stage has graciously saved a section for Marion Cross parents and friends. Tickets are only $30 with 30% proceeds returning to our very own PTO. Parents just have to call Northern Stage -802-296-7000 at least 2 weeks before each show to book seats. Please be sure to let them know you are part of the Marion Cross School.

Local Business Partners (September through June) Chair: Jenn Langhus
Local businesses pay a fee to participate and/or give MCS a percentage of sales to support PTO programs, while we educate the Marion Cross community about their businesses on the PTO web site and in PTO newsletters.
Box Tops for Education (ongoing) Co-Chairs: Katie Kitchel, Jo Ellen Gardner, Laura Di Piazza
The MCS PTO participates in the Box Tops for Education® (BTE) program. To participate, clip the Box Tops coupons that are found on hundreds of products and send them into school with your child in an envelope or plastic zip-type bag. We hold 4-5 collection challenges throughout the year during which each of the classrooms engage in some friendly collection competition. Each valid BTE coupon can be redeemed by the PTO for 10 cents. For those families who would like to participate in the collection challenges, but do not purchase Box Tops products, we also happily collect dimes!
